NGC 6866 - Cygnus

NGC 6866 is a rather faint open cluster located in the constellation Cygnus. Here's a summary of what we know about it:
-
Type: Open Cluster
-
Constellation: Cygnus
-
Right Ascension: 20h 03m 55s
-
Declination: +44° 00' 06"
-
Distance: Estimates vary, but it's typically considered to be around 2,000 to 2,200 parsecs (approximately 6,500 to 7,200 light-years) from Earth.
-
Age: Estimated to be relatively young for an open cluster, possibly around 120 million years old.
-
Appearance: It contains a moderate number of stars. In amateur telescopes, it appears as a scattered grouping of faint stars. The brightest stars are around magnitude 10.
-
Observational Notes: Because of its faintness, it's best viewed with larger telescopes and under dark skies away from light pollution.
If you are interested in viewing it, here are some tips:
-
Equipment: A telescope with an aperture of at least 6 inches (150mm) is recommended to resolve the cluster's individual stars.
-
Location: Find a dark site, far away from city lights.
-
Timing: Cygnus is best observed during the summer and autumn months in the Northern Hemisphere.
-
Coordinates: Use the right ascension and declination coordinates listed above to locate the cluster with your telescope's setting circles or a GoTo system.
